NetDespatch and Cognito have brought the full power of the Internet to mobile users with the UK's first fully-functional web service for managing service logistics from the field. NetDespatch 'Velocity Unwired' allows mobile staff to wirelessly arrange and keep track of requests for collections and deliveries of replacements and parts. The service links Cognito-powered mobile devices directly to the full range of NetDespatch web services.

NetDespatch "Velocity Unwired" provides a total mobile-office capability that reduces field staff reliance on back-office support, allowing them to do many day to day tasks themselves. This cuts operational costs and increases efficiency by saving telephone calls and ensuring that information is accurate and timely. One of the primary applications is in service logistics where field service engineers rely on rapid courier deliveries of parts and equipment and efficient collection of returned goods.

Using the service, engineers can book parts and arrange delivery (using a comprehensive address book facility), to the nearest drop box or depot. In the warehouse, using NetDespatch "Velocity Connector" bar code labels will automatically print ready for despatch through the chosen carrier. The engineer will be alerted on the mobile device when the item has been despatched and again when it has been delivered. Collections for returns can be booked and followed through in the same way.

NetDespatch Velocity is a wholly web based application offering anytime/anywhere access. The means that back-office support staff, carriers and customers can also access the service to arrange returns, collections and shipments and to track their progress.

Staff who are mobile much of the day will see the service of particular benefit. Collection and delivery requests are easy to enter through simple screens which can easily be customised for an individual company's requirements. All the applications and data on the Cognito device are held on the NetDespatch secure central servers, and so if batteries run out, or a device is lost or broken, a replacement can be automatically configured out in the field; there is no need to return to base.

NetDespatch is already seen as the standard for on-line booking and tracking in the transport sector by both carriers and their customers. This new service-industry targeted application links to the same range of web services that are used by those carriers to provide their customers with innovative systems integration and customer-service solutions. It can be supplied as a single application or added to any existing Cognito device. As with all NetDespatch web services, all that is required to implement "Velocity Unwired", is an Internet connection.

"Companies providing rapid response maintenance services, and needing integration with their logistics providers, will gain a real advantage with "Velocity Unwired". With in-the-field booking of parts, collections and returns, operations can become much more streamlined and reactive. This is not only good for service, but it cuts out a whole level of unnecessary administrative support and reduces ordering errors" says Becky Clark, CEO of NetDespatch.
