From the outset, the NetDespatch applications were designed as a Web Native ASP service, whereby multiple transport-related services and applications could be seamlessly integrated both internally and externally, to provide powerful, robust and cost effective solutions.
Traditional ASP models served applications to the desk-top from a server farm. Typically this has meant using Citrix server technologies and delivering entire desk-tops, applications and all, to ‘thin’ clients.
The Web Native ASP is different. It is modelled more on the on-line banking proposition. A Web Native ASP provides a single instance of an online application that is accessed strictly through a Web browser. It does not attempt to serve any specific locale or office. It just serves the Web, and customers access the application as they would their bank account.
There is no hardware to install; our applications are accessible anywhere in the world, just by using a standard Web browser, over a normal Internet connection. Minimal training is required, and implementation can be completed in just a few days.
All software and data resides on our central servers. We provide all system administration, maintenance upgrades, technical support, and the services required to keep our solutions running at optimum performance levels. Because the NetDespatch applications are delivered via a Web browser, from central application servers, system upgrades, and even company-specific customisations are delivered instantly and transparently to every user.
As the availability of web development tools has matured, the original code has been replaced by use of the Java language, Java Business Logic and Java Development tools. Web services architecture using request/response XML over https extends the power and scope of the application to provide scaleable cost-effective solutions. Integration through ND-XML has been extended to other web services including most ‘back office’ despatch and job management systems, post code/address look-up, mapping, driving directions, and mobile data communications.
The NetDespatch N-tier architecture allows us to quickly and easily add the appropriate hardware to ensure that performance is never compromised. Additionally our co-location facility provides us with guaranteed bandwidth, which can be increased as needed.
